Department of Physics at P. R. Thakur Govt. College embarked on its academic journey in 2015, under the affiliation of West Bengal State University (WBSU). Honours course (1+1+1 system) was introduced in 2016 and subsequently in 2018, Choice-Based Credit System (CBCS) have been implemented. In 2023, the National Education Policy (NEP) was adapted revolutionizing the curriculum to foster interdisciplinary learning, critical thinking and skill-based training.

Courses offered:

• Undergraduate Honours course (B.Sc.) in Physics (CBCS).
• B.Sc. 3 year Major in Physics / B.Sc. 4 year Honours in Physics (NEP).
  

Infrastructure and Resources:

• Software driven library with diverse collection of textbooks and reference materials.
• Four (4) laboratories, including a Linux-operated Computer laboratory.
• Conducive environment for experiments.

• Three dedicated full-time teachers nurturing academic and research aspirations.

• Students went to IIT kharagpur, Jadavpur University, Science College: University of Calcutta, Ramkrishna Mission VC college etc. for Post-
  Graduation)
• Alumni established in academia and industry.
• In 2019, Bikram Mondal secured TOP RANK in B.Sc. Honours (1+1+1
  system) in WBSU.
