ABOUT LIBRARY
P. R. Thakur Government College Library system consists of one Central Library named as P. R. Thakur Government College Central Library (PRTGCCL) and few departmental Seminar Libraries.
The Central Library is situated at the ground floor of the College (with an area of 1493.5 sq ft & 299.56 sq ft) which is properly arranged, decorated & well-maintained.
Total collection of books is 9589 (up to 30.06.2024) & covering all subjects and courses taught in the college. PRTGCCL caters to all categories of in-house members, i.e. teachers, students & the non–teaching staff by providing circulation & reading room services. Our library contains a substantial collection of relevant reading matters, text books, & reference books pertaining to the various courses offered by the college, as well as many non-academic books.
The Central Library is automated with open source Library Management Software (LMS) ‘Koha’. The bibliographic database of this collection is accessible through WebOPAC of the Library. The Library is a member of N-LIST (National Library and Information Services Infrastructure for scholarly Content) Consortium of INFLIBNET through which the members of the library can access various Journals & E-books. More over the library is also part of NPTel (National Programme of Technology Enhanced Learning), an initiative of IITs & IISc to enhance the quality of education in the country by developing curriculum based video & web courses.

General Rules
- Each student should be a member for using the library. A non-member may use the library material on the premises with the permission of the Librarian.
- Strict silence, decorum and discipline must be maintained in the library. Use of cell-phones in the library is strictly prohibited.
- Members have to keep their belongings (excluding purse & mobile) in the baggage counter with their responsibility.
- The library is under CCTV surveillance.
- Smoking, eating, sleeping & talking loudly are strictly prohibited in the library.
- Readers should not mark, underline, write, fold, tear pages or otherwise damage the library documents.
- No library material can be taken out of the library without permission. Unauthorized removal of anything belonging to the library will be treated as theft and dealt accordingly.
- Anyone who violates the rules & regulations of the library would be liable to lose the privilege of library membership and may be debarred from using the library facilities.
- No student is allowed to take additional copy of same title at a time.
- Single copy (Reference copy) of any subject book not to be lent out.
- Suggestions on all aspects, of library services are welcome.
Library Membership
- All faculty, staff & students of the college are entitled to become library members.
- Membership is allowed only after submitting a duly filled in and signed membership form, duly recommended by the concerned HoD or office order of joining in the college.The members are supposed to be conversant with and agreeable to the library rules.
Issue / Return Rules
- Users are divided into the following categories – their entitlements, maximum number of books & number of days of issue is proposed in the following table

Fine For Late Return Books / Journals
- Retaining books for more than the stipulated period is liable to be levied for amount of Rs. 0.50 / day / book. The collected fine will be deposited in accounts section and proper receipt will be provided to the member. Membership to the newcomers will be given against request and recommendation by the competent authority like office order etc. User(s) has to return all issued books to the library when he/she is out of station for more than fifteen days.
