Best Practice (1) – Green Campus Initiative:

P. R. Thakur Govt. College takes Green Campus Initiative aims to reduce a campus’s environmental footprint through sustainable practices, promoting eco-friendliness and conservation. The college prides itself in maintaining a lush green campus, including a pond surrounded by various flowering plants and fruit-bearing trees. Situated amid an idyllic rural town, the college campus offers students with an opportunity to learn in an unpolluted environment and garner an appreciation for nature. Students are encouraged to plant trees on special occasions and take care of the plants as they grow. A clean campus is strictly maintained with well-placed dustbins, and no plastic waste is allowed to be strewn within the premises of the college. There is a medicinal plant garden as well where native Indian plants are nurtured and labelled as per their benefits. It offers a teaching opportunity to the students as well. There is a room specifically built for the swans of the pond inside, where they rest and get food regularly. The pond also has fishes inside which are fed at proper intervals. The pond is regularly cleaned and water levels are maintained with precision during summer months. The rest of the campus which is covered in grass is neatly trimmed and allow for sports activities for students all throughout the year. The following fruits and vegetables are cultivated around the year within the premises- mango, lichi, Indian berry, Carrots, Beets, Radish etc. Apart from greenary another key aspects of green include:

  • 2. Waste Management: Implement recycling programs, composting, and minimize single-use plastics.
  • 3. Sustainable Transportation: Encourage carpooling, cycling, and electric/hybrid vehicles.

  • 5. Sustainable Food Systems: Promote locally sourced, organic, and plant-based food options.

Best Practice (2) – Inculcating the spirit of research among faculty for the excellence of academic progress::

The Institute continuously encourages and provides basic need to its faculty members to carry out their research activities to reach towards the excellence of academic progress. Faculty members of this Institution have published papers in different National and International journals/proceedings. At the same time, the institute tries to provide the students with ICT enabled teaching learning process so that they can be technologically oriented and find the modern learning procedure for their future higher studies. Research environment in the college motivates the students to get assigned in multi-disciplinary research initiatives in future. Some of the teachers receive grants, funding, for research project and ensure access to resources, facilities, and support staff for excellence in academic progress and collaborate with industries, organizations, or government institutions to provide real-world research opportunities. This faculty members organize regular workshops, conferences, and training sessions to enhance research skills and foster interdisciplinary research teams to promote diverse perspectives and ideas. P. R. Thakur college allows faculty to allocate time for research activities, ensuring a balance with teaching responsibilities. In pursuit of enhancing its research capabilities and academic collaborations, the college has established Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with several colleges and organizations. These partnerships facilitate joint research projects, exchange of knowledge, and collaborative initiatives, thereby enriching the academic and research environment at P. R. Thakur Government College. Faculty members engage students in research projects, promoting a culture of research among future academics. Research monitoring cell regularly assess research progress and provide constructive feedback to faculty. P. R. Thakur Government College is proactive in organizing seminars, outreach programs and value-added courses that bridge the gap between academic research and practical application. Thakur Government College Library system consists of one Central Library named as P. R. Thakur Government College Central Library (PRTGCCL) and fifteen subject wise departmental Seminar libraries. Therefore stakeholders of this institute use this library as a great resource for academic progress .Total collection of books is 9,291(upto30.06.2023) & covering all subjects and courses taught in the college. PRTGCCL caters to all categories of in-house members, i.e. teachers, students & the non–teaching staff by providing circulation & reading room services. Our library contains a substantial collection of relevant reading matters, text books, & reference books pertaining to the various courses offered by the college, as well as many non-academic books. PRTGCCL also offers different exhaustive services like Book Lending Service, Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) Service, Reference Service, Reading Room Service, Digital Library Service, Current Awareness Service through e-mail, Career Guidance cell, SDI Service through e-mail, Research Support Services, Seamless access to e-books and e-journal, User Orientation Program on different OERs, User Empowerment Program on handling ICT tools for Higher Education, National Level Seminars on latest Digital Learning Technologies.
