This field of study delves into various aspects including macro and microstructure, evolution, physiology, adaptation, classification, development, and the dynamic interactions within and between species. Students also explore the distribution of animals and their specific roles within ecosystems.
Launched in the academic session 2020-2021, the Undergraduate Honours Course in Zoology is designed for students eager to examine nature from a close perspective. The department currently accommodates 23 Honours students and is staffed by two full-time faculty members. Additionally, the department offers Zoology as a Generic Elective and Minor subject, and provides a Multi-Disciplinary Course (MDC) in Life Science for students from other Honours departments.
The Department of Zoology fosters an environment conducive to both academic and personal growth. It aims to develop students’ overall personality and prepare them for success in academics and extracurricular activities, while nurturing their potential as responsible citizens. To enhance creative skills, the department organizes seminars and workshops. Furthermore, zoological excursions and field visits are conducted to heighten awareness of ecological and environmental issues.
Faculty members are actively engaged in professional development, participating in various faculty developmental programmes, seminars, and symposia to stay updated with current trends in biology. They also carryout research and regularly publish their findings in respected national and international journals.
